High tea @ The Landing Point Fullerton

This birthday treat was given by my little sister (well..... not so little anymore😃). Oh yes! a not-so-often opportunity to enjoy the delicacies of a high tea, especially at one of the exquisite venues in the city. But, oh no! Piling on more calories than I should😢

A little "bite" on history:
The construction of Collyer Quay was completed in 1864 and was named after Captain George Chancellor Collyer. It stretches from the junction of Fullerton Road/ Battery Road to D'Almeida Street. It was construction to replace the sand beach along the same stretch to served as a landing point for unloading of goods coming into Singapore in the olden days.

2017 Chinese New Year Celebration part 4 (KL restaurant)

On the 2nd day of Chinese New Year, we went for dinner at a popular restaurant around the neighborhood.

The food was yummy! However, there was simply too much food and we could not finish everything, so some of the food was packed and brought home instead.

The restaurant where we had dinner.

Big and juicy sweet and sour prawns

The signature cold platter, served at the beginning of Chinese Banquets or any sit-down course meal.

Roast Suckling Pig! The whole of it!

Abalone with broccoli and sea cucumber... delicious!

Claypot rice with different types of preserved delicacies.

A simple steamed pomfret.

Another fish dish.

Restaurant address:
8, Jalan 30a/119

2017 Chinese New Year Part 3 (KL home celebration)

We had a great Chinese New Year celebration. Great not because it was grand and full of happenings, but great because I got the chance to spend it with my dearest grandma, aunts and cousins in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after more than what seems like 10, 15 years after moving to Singapore. (okay, I do visit them, but for the past years, not during this special Chinese festive season)

The kids had fun too, as they got to play fireworks (the sparkling sticks) the whole night.

Food - both home cooked and restaurant - was great too.

Beautiful table set up by cousins and sister. This was the humble yet tasty home prepared meal on the first day of CNY

Black fungus cooked with cabbage, simple yet tasty.

Stir-fried mung bean vermicelli

Now these are the stuff we do not usually eat, these are mock meat in various versions - "roast chicken", "char siew (roast meat)", "pig-intestine", etc.

Rendang chicken - spicy and yummy

Just a simple vegetable dish

Braised pig trotter

2017 Chinese New Year Celebration Part 1 (Preparation)

Our family reunion dinner was a simple one. Usually, we make multiple trips to the market and supermarkets to buy the fresh produce in preparation for the celebration meals. And my oh my, as the days draw nearer to CNY, the supermarkets become overcrowded, and almost chaotic, where people practically stuff whatever fresh food and CNY goods they can lay their hands on into the shopping trolley. The mentality that supermarkets, wet markets and coffeeshops are all closed on the first few days of CNY sets people on shopping spree mode, stocking up meat, vegetables, fruits (Mandarin oranges, in particular), dry delicacies, canned abalone and other ocean catch, festive goodies such as pineapple tarts, egg rolls, candies and the ever-so-popular Bak Kwa (barbeque meat pieces).

I love CNY not only because it is our traditional festival, but also the atmosphere during the weeks of preparation. The sight and sounds of people going to the markets, the bright red and golden yellow banners, lanterns and other festive decorations, the hustle and bustle of the festive routine, all these fill the air with that special magical setting.
